Merry Christmas

Just dropping by to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

Snowmen A to Zzzz is put together now just need to do the fly stitch along the seams.  So pleased with how it turned out so far.

My sister made me a gingerbread train.  I have been admiring it for the last couple of days but think I will give into temptation tonight and eat some.  She makes the best gingerbread.
My boss gave me these beautiful flowers.  They come in a little basket which made it easy to carry home on the train.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and I hope Santa brings you something nice.

Until next time happy stitching.

Last night I decided to start something new.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a few Cinderberry Stitches kits when I was down in Geelong.  I couldn't resist a new pattern called Pippa.

Isn't she cute?  I plan to put the quilt top together whilst I am on holidays.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas it has been fun stitching with you all.

Thanks Wendy for hosting a lovely evening.

Happy stitching.

Some Finishes

In the last week or so I have managed to finish a few things.

Two quilts all bound and finished.  Lucky I did the binding last week it is going to be 40 degrees here tomorrow not ideal for sewing binding.

 Two Christmas decorations.

Blocks 4 of Cornelian.  These just needs the centres done but I am hoping the fabrics for that come with the next block which is due this week.  I am all up to date on this one and any so enjoying making it.  I choose to use the Cottage Garden Threads option and they are so lovely to work with.

Until next time happy stitching.

Friday Night With Friends

I had another lovely productive evening.

Firstly I quilted my Baby Love quilt now all that I need to do is put the binding on.

I had intended to put the binding on last night but I decided to watch the Nelson Mandela specials on tv.  What an amazing man he was.  Instead I did some hand stitching and finished of the O block from my Snowmen A to Zzzz.  I only have a few more blocks left to complete.
And this morning I picked up my Carousel quilt from the long arm quilter.  It has come up really nice.  It is the first time I have used this long arm quilter Jemima's Creative Quilting. The turnaround time was about six weeks so I was super excited that it was done so quickly.   I left my Swoon Quilt to be quilted next.  I have a few tops packed away that I want to get quilted.

Thanks to Cheryll for hosting.

Until next time happy stitching

Some finishes and new things

I have managed to finish  a couple of things.  I have taken these photos outside but because I only have a very small back yard I couldn't stand straight in front of the clothes line as there is a wall there so they are on a bit of an angle.

First up is my Round and Round quilt using Happy Go Lucky by Bonnie & Camille and it is one of Camille's patterns.  I think I will get this one professionally quilted.

Merry Merry Snowmen by Bunny Hill Designs all finished ready for Christmas.  I have purchased a Hang It Dang It hanger so I can hang this one up just have to work out where to hang it wall space is limited but I may need to jig a few things around.

Some close ups.  I love Snowmen!

L7 finished and ready for wrapping.

Summer Bouquet ready for quilting.  Just have to think about how I would like to do it.  Gail hand quilted hers but I can never get my top flat enough when I hand quilt so I am thinking I may machine quilt as I know I won't be happy if it is not flat.
And because I have finished some things I just got more for the to do pile.  I went to the Piccadilly Market in Geelong and Cinderberry Stitches had a stall so I had to get a few kits just because I could.

A couple of other little purchases from the market could not resist the Gingerbread Man brooch and the hair clips are a little present for a friend's little girl so cute.

I am off to finish decorating the tree.

Until next time happy stitching.

Two Projects at a Time

This week I have worked on only two projects.  One on the sewing machine and one hand stitching.  I have made some good progress and now the projects have swapped places.

First up L7 which is now all quilted.  I did loops for the first time.  Not perfect but not too bad for a first go.

A close up of the quilting.

 And the back.
All that is left is hand stitching done the binding.

Next up is Summer Bouquet by Gail Pan.  I saw Gail's original when I was at the Blue Mountains last year and really loved it.  I have used totally different fabrics to Gail.
A close up of the blocks ready to be sewn together.

Last weekend I went to the Geelong Quilt Show.  There were some beautiful quilts on display.  A few of the ladies for the Guild were sewing up scraps which my Mum thought was a good idea for my scraps.  They were making quilts for the Royal Children's Hospital which is such a great cause.  I only wish I had more time to be able to do things like that but it is hard when you work full time.

Until next time happy stitching.

Friday Night Sew In

Last night I started a new project.  You know the feeling when you get new fabric and you just can't wait to start so you drop your current project and jump straight in.  Also I have a deadline for this quilt for a birthday next August.  I know at the moment August 2014 seems far away but it is a big quilt 96" x 96" so being so large I will send it out to be quilted.

The fabric is not my usual colours but as it is a gift I choose fabric I think will be liked.  The fabric is Soho Chic by Sandy Gervais and I actually love it so it will make it easier to make.  I find it hard if I have to work with fabrics I don't particularly like.  The pattern is from Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley and is called Fresh.  Camille's quilt is made with Marmalade so my version is totally different.  I have used a purple as my background fabric which is a bit different from the usual white.

A block all cut out ready for sewing.

 A block all sewn together.

Four blocks sewn together to make a bigger block.  I need 16 of these big blocks.

And the post didn't feel right without some Bonnie & Camille fabric.  I was lucky enough to get my hands on a fat quarter bundle and jelly roll of April Showers as a pre-release it is due out early next year.  I have been having a little play with it.

I hope everyone had a great Friday night sewing.  Thanks Wendy for hosting.

Until next time happy stitching.

Fruitful Four Days Sewing

I had a fruitful four days sewing.  I achieved everything I wanted to get done plus a little more.  Just a note most things were partly started and I didn't actually do as much as the photos show in case you all think I didn't sleep.

First up is Baby Love by Bonnie of Cotton Way using the spots and solids from Scrumptious.  I am going to quilt this one myself.

L7 designed by Me and My Sister.  This is a present for my Mum's friend who she has known since she was 5.  I am going to quilt this one myself as well.  I just have to wait for the postie to bring the backing fabric.
This is Swell minus the outer border which only arrived in the mail this week so I need to add that.  It is designed by Camille Roskelley and is in her book Simply Retro.  It is a gift for a wedding and again I am going to quilt it.  I have used Scrumptious and think I may have issues parting with this one but I know it is going to a great home.
A couple of decorations I made from last year's QFD Christmas in July designed by Janet Rowe.  Definitely need to make more of these.
I finally got around to finishing my Believe table runner.  I really love this and enjoyed making the yo yos using the Clover yo yo maker it made them really easy.

Since I have all those quilts that need to quilt I practiced some free motion quilting.  I am a bit scared about marking on a quilt top.  Think I need to dive in and just do it.

My Cornelian blocks all complete.  The next block should arrive in a couple of weeks.  I am so enjoying making this.  I really like Helen's hexies and the fact that you don't need to pull any papers out.

Last thing is my second Round and Round block designed by Camille using Happy Go Lucky.  This has been on the backburner for a while but I saw on Facebook Camille was making another one so I got inspired.  I have everything cut now and two more blocks partly completed and then three more to go after that.

Tomorrow I am off to the Christmas Gathering which I am looking forward to.

Until next time happy stitching.

Friday Night With Friends

Hi everyone,

Just want to start by saying thank you for all the lovely comments.  I think I have now worked out how to reply and have fixed the problem I was having with receiving replies.  It had an old email address which I thought I had changed.  I am not always that good at the tech stuff much prefer when it all runs smoothly.

Anyway last night I went back to my Audrey Blue quilt.  I managed to get the last 13 blocks together.

So now for the hard part of deciding which block to put where.  I always end up swapping blocks back and forth and then ending up putting them back in the same spot.

I have some plans to do quite  bit of sewing this weekend.  In Melbourne it is a long weekend (well sort of Tuesday is Cup Day and I have taken Monday off work) so four days to sew.  I have a few presents in progress for gifts needed for early in the New Year I want to work on and some Christmas decorations to make.  First though I have to go to the quilt shop to get a couple of supplies.

Hope everyone had a great night sewing.  Thanks Cheryll for hosting.

Until next time happy stitching.

Happy Go Lucky Friday Night Sew In

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had an enjoyable Friday sewing.  Thanks Wendy for hosting Friday Night Sew In.

I played with some Happy Go Lucky Fabric.  This time I was working on Audrey Blue designed by Janelle Wind as part of Quilt Fabric Delights Christmas In July of course I had to get the kit as it was using Happy Go Lucky by Bonnie & Camille

This is the progress so far

I had most of them pinned up ready to sew when I got home for work.  Until the pin tin was empty.  There were still a few more to be pinned.

I managed to get 12 blocks finished so almost half way.  There are 25 blocks in all

I feel like I had quite a productive evening.

Until next time happy stitching.

Summer and an Ironing Board Cover

A few weeks ago I started making blocks for my Summer quilt designed by Camille Roskelley and I am pleased to say that not only have I finished all my blocks 12 in all but I have the top all put together.  I am waiting for my yardage to arrive to use for the backing and then I have to decide whether I send it out to be quilted.  I am investigating a new long arm quilter as the last quilt I had done took seven months and I don't really want to wait that long again.  I have recently been to a couple of quilt shows so I have picked up a few cards of long arm quilters.

I really enjoyed making this quilt.  I am thinking I might do another block and make it up as a cushion to have a matching set.

Over at Cotton Way Bonnie has declared October as Ironing Board Makeover Month so I got inspired as I have had Bonnie's Patchwork Ironing Board Covers 2 pattern in the to do pile for some time.  I spent the afternoon making the cover I just had a problem putting the elastic in but otherwise I had a very enjoyable afternoon and a fully completed project.  Now I don't want to do any ironing as my cover is too nice.

Until next time happy stitching
