Stash Chaos

My stash has got totally out of control so I am looking for ideas to use some of my fabric.  Does your stash ever look like this.

A bit out of control don't you think and that is not even the whole stash.  Time to use some of it up to make way for new purchases.  I have found that my taste in fabric has evolved over time and I now tend to go for brighter cheery tones.  I still like the old fabric but when there are new ranges coming out all the time it is hard to resist buying more.  I have made these all from the stash nothing purchased whatsoever.

Place mats and coaster sets.  I used these Westalee Rulers to make them.

There is a bit of work involved but I am going to make some more and use them as gifts.  I am also going to make some with just stripes which should be quicker as not so much cutting.

Happy Australia Day everyone.  It has been one year since I started blogging can you believe that.

If anyone has any ideas on using up a stash I would love to know.

Until next time happy stitching.

Owl Bag

This is what I have made this week.

I thought it was really cute so just had to make it even though it has a zipper which I am not that good at doing (I need more practice) but the instructions were so clear it made it very easy to insert.  The pattern is in an Amercian magazine Quilts & More the Winter 2010 issue.

I am using my new net book to publish this post for the first time.  I managed to download the photo without any problems so I am sitting in the lounge watching the tennis while I type.

Until next time happy stitching.

Today is my parents 40th wedding anniversary.  Congratulations Mum and Dad.

We went out for dinner on Thursday night which was lovely but also a bit sad as my sister and her family have now headed off to Katherine so it was a bit of a farewell to them as well.

Chris looking terrified of the sparklers.

Robyn and Joshua

Nikita, Taneisha and Narelle.

Thomas enjoying his ice cream.

This is what I have finished this week.  It has been quilted and the binding put on.  Another project finished ready to be hung for next Christmas.

This morning I have been to see Boy from Oz.  It was great what a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning.

To anyone that is in a flooded area we are thinking of you and wish you luck for the clean up.  From all reports on the news there are many many helpers.  I have an Aunt and Uncle in Karalee who were isolated and without power but luckily they are on high ground so they didn't get flooded.  Many of the designers are doing auctions if you are looking to support the flood relief just check out their blogs.  I have links on the side of my blog to some of my favourites.

Until next time happy stitching.

P.S. This was my 50th blog so another little celebration.

What a busy week

I can't believe how fast my week off from work has gone.

This is what I got up to.

Monday I went and saw The King's Speech excellent movie can highly recommend it.

Tuesday we went to Geelong and to the Wool Musuem where they had some wool quilts on display which were all very lovely.  Sorry no photos were allowed.

Wednesday I got my hair done.

Thursday I went to the Melbourne Zoo with my sister, her children and my Mum.

The elephants including the babies hiding in between.  It was great to be able to see them very cute.

Thomas and Joshua with the zebra.

Joshua, Mikayla and Thomas ready for a fun day out.

Friday I went and did some shopping.  I also managed to work out my new Netbook.

Saturday was a day of rest at home which worked out well as it was rather warm.

Today (Sunday) we had a picnic in the park.

Between all this I did manage to do some sewing and I am quite proud that I have finished two projects already this month and a couple of nearly finished.

The above is a jelly roll quilt I made using the Bliss range of fabric.  I have made it as a gift for my boss' wife who was recently diagnosed with cancer.  I have quilted it myself and in the border I have done curves on the machine which is a first for me.  I did the hearts by hand in the white blocks as they were a bit too wonky when I tried on the machine.

This is an iphone holder from Janelle Wind's book Pieces of Me which I have made for my friend Rachel whose birthday it is today.  Happy Birthday Rach.  It was so quick and easy to make and I am sure you could use left overs to whip some of these up.
Lastly is a quilt top I think I will get this one professionally quilted.  It is from Camille Roskelley's book Simplify and is also using Camille's fabric Bliss which she designed with her Mum Bonnie.

So that was my week I hope yours was as enjoyable.

Until next time happy stitching.  I have some binding to stitch while I watch t.v. tonight.
